The Restoration of Hart Home

Hart Village is a special community for many reasons, but the deep history this area in South Guelph possesses is one to be proud of. Named after Guelph’s Hart Family, Hart Village is not only home to the first complete community of net zero homes, but was once the Hart Farm Homestead, where four generations of the Hart Family lived in since 1847.

As our new community in Hart Village continues to take form, this existing historic home is in the process of being restored and incorporated into Hart Village as an amenity space exclusively for Hart Village residents. For a brief history lesson on the Hart Family and a progress update on the restoration of Hart Home, keep reading!

The History of Hart Home

One of our communities in South Guelph, Hart Village sits on what was once the old Hart Farm Homestead. Now, one of the oldest surviving farmhouses in Guelph / Puslinch Township, Hart Home was founded by the first generation of the Hart Family in 1847, with four more generations to come in a span of over 150 years! The Hart family was an important pioneering family in the settlement of Puslinch Township, which has granted their home historical value and protection under the Ontario Heritage Act. This home is one of the very few remaining log houses in the area!

Plans for Hart Home

At the moment, our team is in the process of removing the aluminum siding off of Hart Home. We have plans to replace the bottom log course with timber salvaged from the Hart barn and to expand the basement area over the coming months.

Hart Home will be beautifully landscaped, professionally cared for and managed by our team. This home will be the perfect place for overnight guests and short stays. It will also be open for our community of homeowners to host their next family celebration!

Inside Hart Home there will be:

  • Hotel-style guest suites with a wet bar and private bathrooms
  • Party room with a wet bar and double patio doors leading outside to the courtyard
  • Main level kitchen, library and living room with a central gas fireplace

We are so excited to restore Hart Home back to its original beauty, while preserving its rich history and allowing Hart Village residents a special experience unique to Guelph.
