GoSolar: Press Release from Terra View

For almost two decades, Terra View Homes has been pioneering green homebuilding practices in Canada. Today, Terra View Homes is excited to announce they are the first builder in Canada to offer 4kW solar modules on newly built homes in their Hart Village subdivision in Guelph*. This follows a long tradition of leading the way with environmentally conscious building initiatives.

Terra View Homes was one of the first homebuilders to build exclusively Energy Star® homes starting in 2006. In 2008 they built the first ever Rotary Green Dream Home to LEED™ Certification standards, exposing tens of thousands of visitors to a higher building standard. In 2012, Terra View’s LEED™ model home at Edgewater Estates in Kitchener showcased the extent of dedication to environmentally conscious building, incorporating the key elements of Energy Star®, GreenHouse™, Built Green™ and LEED™, from foundation to roof.

In 2018, Terra View started building the first completely Net-Zero-Ready community in Guelph at their Hart Village development. Homes built in Hart Village are an astonishing 80% more energy efficient than those constructed at the current regulated building codes.

“ FROM THE BEGINNING, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN OUR MISSION TO BE A PIONEER IN ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY. WE ARE COMMITTED TO CONDUCTING THE HIGHEST DEGREE OF ETHICAL BUILDING PRACTICES TO PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT, AND MAKE IT HEALTHIER FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS”

The System Explained

Every newly built home will be completed with solar panels connected to a grid-tied system. The extra energy generated after the household consumption will be fed and stored directly on the local grid. This type of system enables home owners to use their own solar energy first, with many homes able to generate a generous portion of annual energy requirements from their rooftop system alone.

The system will generate up to 4kW of peak power and 5,000kWh per year. Average Canadian usage ranges between 5000 kWh and 13,000 kWh annually. An efficient household can virtually eliminate all or the majority of hydro costs with this sustainable solution.

“ IT IS AN EXCITING TIME FOR ONTARIANS IN THAT A BUILDER AT THE FOREFRONT OF ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS BUILDING HAS EMBRACED THE BENEFITS OF SOLAR TECHNOLOGY. WE ARE THRILLED TO PARTNER WITH TERRA VIEW HOMES TO BRING THIS UNIQUE OFFERING TO HOMEOWNERS IN GUELPH”

WIL BEARDMORE / PRESIDENT / BLUEWATER ENERGY

Terra View Homes has partnered with solution provider Will Beardmore of Bluewater Energy. Bluewater has developed a unique and user-friendly application available for download on both smart phones and desktops to monitor consumption and savings in real-time. Understanding a household’s peak usage can lead to optimal savings.

GoSolar from Terra View encourages homeowners to take the first step to complete energy independence. The home will be wired and ready for when the homeowner is ready to increase solar generation and classify the home as full net-zero.

Benefits for Homeowners

Based on an average annual usage of 5000kWh, paired with an estimated 10% annual hydro inflation rate, homeowners can expect to realize an average savings of $60,000 over the lifespan of 30 years in their home*

Choosing solar panels is the ultimate sustainable action as a steward of the environment. The 4kW modules paired with monitoring system will enable homeowners to view consumption, generation, and direction of energy flow, anytime, anywhere, in real-time, utilizing the ultimate smart home technology available today.

Savings really add up! The value of this system is in excess of $20,000 and will be included in new homes FREE. With rising hydro costs homeowners will see a drastic reduction in monthly bills.

_____

Better for families, better for the future.

Terra View Homes is committed to making a significant movement towards the use of solar energy. The inclusion of solar panels on a new home provides a break in individual energy costs, and contributes towards a cleaner and brighter future. Adopting this form of technology provides homeowners an unprecedented level of awareness and control over their energy usage.

“TIME AND TIME AGAIN, OUR HOMEOWNERS WHO CHOSE TO ADD SOLAR PANELS AS AN UPGRADE HAVE COME BACK TO US REMARKING ON THE INCREDIBLE UTILITY SAVINGS THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED. NOW WITH GOSOLAR, OUR NEW HOMEOWNERS DON’T NEED TO CHOOSE TO UPGRADE BECAUSE WE ARE INCLUDING IT FREE IN ALL NEW SALES.”

LISA SCHUETT / VICE-PRESIDENT / TERRA VIEW HOMES

Terra View Homes believes choosing to harness the power of the sun will not only save homeowners money, but makes a positive personal statement and example of community leadership to encourage the health and longevity of the natural world.

*Limited time only, offered on new-builds in Hart Village community only.

Average annual usage based on a 2500 square foot home with 4 occupants. Average annual hydro inflation based on $0.14kWh in May 2019 with estimated historical average inflation of 10% year-over-year. Savings is based on these averages over a 30 year duration of life in the home. Subject to change with off-peak vs. on-peak energy consumption of the household, southern exposure of the solar panels and varying hydro rates.
