With International Women’s Day (March 8, 2022) and Women in Construction Week (March 6–12, 2022) celebrated annually during the month of March, Terra View Homes is grateful to celebrate the strong, inspiring women who are paving the way for the next generation of workers in our industry.
By emphasizing and celebrating the important role that women can play in construction, we’ll continue to break down barriers for what has historically been, and still is, a male-dominant workforce. Here are some quick statistics to paint a clearer picture of the current state of our industry:
- Women account for approximately 12 percent of Ontario’s construction industry workforce, including off-site business administration, management and sales (On-Site Magazine)
- As of 2019, 4.7% of tradespeople working in construction in Canada were females (Procore)
- The industry will need to recruit more than 300,000 new workers over the next decade to keep pace with demand — one way to fill this labour gap is through hiring more women
This year’s theme, Envision Equity, focuses on raising awareness about the wide range of opportunities and roles available for women including tradeswomen, project managers, administrative positions and business ownership. If the industry wants to effect lasting change, women need to see themselves at every level. It is important that we continue to redefine gender roles and connect young women with inspiring female skilled professionals to debunk misconceptions about the skilled professions being unsuitable for women.
At Terra View Homes, we recognize that every day is an opportunity to amplify women’s voices and show appreciation for their roles in making our industry better.

Construction is a fit for everyone — and while there’s a long way to go to reach gender parity in Canadian construction, we’re proud to support the new inroads that are built each day to reach that goal.
