For our next Homeowner Spotlight, the Douglas/Larson Family graciously shared their experience behind building and moving into their Net Zero Ready custom home with Terra View! From learning about the biggest difference from their previous home, their favourite part of their home, and the advice they have for prospective homeowners, we enjoyed their insight into what it’s been like to join our expanding Hart Village community.
1. Which Terra View Homes community/development do you live in, and when did you move into your home?
We live in Hart Village in south Guelph and moved into our beautiful home (“Woodlands” floor plan) in October of 2019.
2. What drew you to a Terra View Home?
We were drawn to the development as it was being built in the neighbourhood that we lived in – a great location near the university, our daughter’s elementary school, and also Preservation Park, one of Guelph’s best features! We love taking our dog Sophie for walks in the forest.
We were excited about the Net Zero Ready home, a highly efficient home offering reduced utility costs, the ability to charge an electric car and add solar panels at a future date.
3. What is the biggest difference from your previous home?
Our new home has significantly more square feet, a modern design with an open concept kitchen, and a great room with a large island! We definitely appreciated the extra space when our son returned home from college and our oldest daughter moved back in with us – at one point two adults and three adult children were working or studying in different corners of our home!
4. What is your favourite part about your home?
We love cooking in our spacious kitchen and have enjoyed our private backyard, deck, hot tub and landscaping projects. We also finished the basement to add a home office, extra bathroom and more living space, including a spot for the Peloton bike, our replacement for the gym. The floor plan is so efficient and accommodating for our family and we seem to use every part of the home now that we are working from home permanently.
5. What would you tell someone interested in purchasing a Terra View Custom Home?
Terra View offers a great solution for a family looking to live in a lovely community like Guelph. We were given several options to consider – lot size, floor plan, exterior finishes and elevation, and when it came to the interior design, we were given several options so we could customize to our taste, but not too many that it became overwhelming! The design team was amazing – friendly and collaborative. They selected beautiful options for the base model of our house and then offered some gorgeous upgrades that didn’t ‘break the bank’. The whole experience was engaging, creative, and efficient! We highly recommend Terra View as a builder of beautiful, energy-efficient, and modern homes that you can customize to your style and budget.
